Engage with upstream suppliers

Version 1 - Last updated -

Engagement with upstream suppliers is critical for ensuring conformance with the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (ZDHC MRSL) requirements and implementing the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme. Suppliers must communicate clear expectations and actions to upstream suppliers for effective engagement.

Key actions for upstream supplier engagement:

Ensure upstream suppliers:

  • Are registered on the ZDHC Gateway
  • Monitor chemical purchases for ZDHC MRSL conformance
  • Maintain an accurate Chemical Inventory List (CIL) and Material Inventory List (MIL), and generate ZDHC InCheck Reports.
  • Conduct wastewater testing as per ZDHC wastewater requirements and generate a ClearStream Report (if applicable).
  • Identify and address non-conformities through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action Plans (CAP).
  • Complete the ZDHC Supplier to Zero assessment and achieve at least a Level 1 or 2 certificate.

Main production facilities must:

  • Provide upstream suppliers with training and resources on ZDHC MRSL and chemical management best practices.
